<br> Community Park’s splash pad opened to the community in 2016. The design of the play area was inspired from amenities throughout Community Park’s Sports Complex featuring elements inspired from the Youth Sports Complex, basketball pavilion, and tennis courts. Additional amenities include covered picnic tables, basketball court, tennis courts, playground, restrooms, and more. Additional amenities include covered picnic tables, restrooms, and open green space. Upgrades included Cool Creek bank stabilization, year-round restrooms, a larger parking lot, and trails. Take a picnic and also walk one of the greenway trails with public art! Named for early 19th-century free black preacher and teacher of all races John Chavis, this 37-acre City of Raleigh park was opened in 1938 and thrived for many years as one of the state’s first urban parks for African Americans.
